Microsoft Supports LDAP Directory Services

 

Þ Microsoft’s recent release of its Internet Mail and Internet Explorer 3.0 for Windows includes support of the Internet standard Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) for Internet directory services. Microsoft will include LDAP server support in Exchange Server 5.0 and provide LDAP support for Internet Mail and News for Macintosh and Windows 3.1 in a future release.

Announcement Highlights

Microsoft joined with four leading Internet white pages providers to provide extensive search capabilities from within Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer 3.0 already contains links for two of the white pages services, Bigfoot and Four11 Corp. Service providers WhoWhere? and Switchboard will be included within Internet Explorer 3.0 by the end of first quarter 1997.
